The Libyan Red Crescent says that the death toll from floods in the eastern Libyan city of Derna has soared to 11,300 DERNA, Libya -- The death toll in Libya's coastal city of Derna has soared to 11,300 as search efforts continue following a massive flood fed by the breaching of two dams in heavy rains, the Libyan Red Crescent said Thursday. Marie el-Drese, the aid group's secretary-general, told The Associated Press by phone that a further 10,100 people are reported missing in the Mediterranean city. Health authorities previously put the death toll in Derna at 5,500. The storm also killed about 170 people elsewhere in the country. U.S. health officials are reporting another death and several more cases of vision loss linked to eyedrops tainted with a drug-resistant bacteria NEW YORK -- U.S. Health officials reported another death and several more cases of vision loss from illnesses linked to eye drops tainted with a drug-resistant bacteria. The bacteria has infected 81 people, including four who died and 14 who lost vision , the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday. That’s up from three death s and eight cases of vision loss reported in March. The CDC also said four people have undergone surgery to remove an eyeball due to the infections. The outbreak is considered particularly worrisome because the bacteria driving it — Pseudomonas aeruginosa — is resistant to standard antibiotics. Investigators say most of the patients had used certain brands of eyedrops, and products from EzriCare and Delsam Pharma were recalled in February. According to a police complaint in October, a witness to the shooting saw Krieg Butler, 36, shoot and kill 13-year-old Sinzae Reed outside of an apartment complex on Oct. 12. The witness said Butler exited his truck, fired shots at Sinzae and drove off, the complaint said. Butler was arrested days after the shooting and charged with murder, but those charges were dropped pending completion of the investigation after prosecutors said Butler claimed self -defense in the shooting during his arraignment in October, according to a statement from the Columbus Police Department.
