The San Diego Padres will host the Miami Marlins for game two of their three-game set this Tuesday from PETCO Park. San Diego jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back in game one to win by four, 6-2.

Marlins Preview & Projected Starter

Miami moved to 64-62 after losing to San Diego. The Marlins came out slow last night, and they’ll now look to avoid a fourth straight loss. The Miami offense is scoring 4.02 runs per game, while batting .260, with a .321 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.10 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP.

Jesus Luzardo (8-8, 4.13 ERA, 160 Ks) will take the mound for Miami. The sixth-year lefty didn’t handle Houston well at home last week, giving up six runs in just 3.2 innings en route to his eighth loss of the season. Luzardo has now dropped three straight starts, and it’s clouded the strong campaign he was having up until this stretch. Luzardo has allowed four runs or more in each of his last four outings, and he’ll face another test here in San Diego.

Marlins Player Trends & Props

Luis Arraez has recorded a hit in seven of the last nine games, and he’s leading the majors in batting (.358) and hits (166), with 58 RBI.

Jorge Soler has collected a hit in four of the previous seven Games, and he leads Miami in home runs (32) and RBI (67).

Bryan De La Cruz has produced a run in two of the last three Games, and he’s second on the team in both categories with sixteen home runs and 63 runs batted in.

Jake Burger is enjoying a twelve-game hit streak, and he's batting .373 with the Marlins, with 27 homers and 63 RBI for the season.

Padres Preview & Projected Starter

San Diego moved to 60-66 after defeating Miami. The Padres jumped on the Marlins early last night, and they’ll look to double down here in Game two. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per Game, while batting .228, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.76 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP.

Blake Snell (10-8, 2.65 ERA, 171 Ks) will take the mound for San Diego. The eighth-year lefty came through with another solid outing left week in interleague play, holding Baltimore to two runs through six innings pitched, en route to his tenth win. Snell has put together his best season since 2018, and although his record may not show it, he’s been one of the top pitchers in baseball this year. The Seattle native has held teams to three runs or less in sixteen straight starts, and he’ll look to win a third straight game here.

Padres Player Trends & Props

Juan Soto has recorded a hit in four of the last six Games, and he leads the Padres in home runs (24) and RBI (75), with 115 hits.

Manny Machado went yard in Monday’s win, and he’s second in the team in homers (24) and RBI (74).

Fernando Tatis is hitless through his last three games, so he may be due soon, and he’s posting a solid line of .264/20/65.

Xander Bogaerts has collected a hit in six of the last nine games, and he leads the Pads in hits (121), while batting .265.

Ha-Seong Kim doubled and homered in the game one victory, and he leads SD in batting (.280), with 17 homers and 49 RBI.

Corey’s Free Pick

San Diego got off to a good start last night, and with the scratch from Rich Hill to Blake Snell, they’ve got a really good chance to take Game two. Snell hasn’t necessarily been dominant, but he’s been as reliable as possible over the past three months, and he’s more than trustworthy at home. The total is low duet to Snell’s presence, so while that might be worth a look, let’s back the Padres at Petco with their ace on the mound.
